Bay Window Curtain Rods and Accessories
Bay windows can add a level of style and openness to a room that few other window options can rival. They offer extra seating, a dynamic room design, and the opportunity for beautiful interior decoration. However, they also pose the problem of treatment. More specifically, bay window curtain rods are very particular, so they can be difficult to replace. How does one deal with this issue?
Though it is true that bay windows can be a hassle to decorate in some ways, the problem with curtain rods is entirely solvable.
Since ordinary curtain rods do not work with bay windows, special curved curtain rods are needed to fit the unique frame. These curtain rods are often made of metal with a white finish. They come in a number of sizes and are highly adjustable in order to fit your specific windows. Keep in mind that these curtain rods are able to support only a certain amount of weight, so avoid using heavy draperies to furnish them.
If you would rather use regular window curtain rods, there are some ways to make them compatible to your bay windows. One way is to reshape them with special tools so that they will fit. Unfortunately, this requires that you have the tools you need and that you know how use them correctly. If this is not the case, you can also use traditional curtain rods and blinds to cover your windows as with any other type of window. This would mean covering up the bay window completely, and losing some of the dynamic effects it brings to the room. It would also limit the use of the window box.
Before you make your decision as to how you will treat your bay windows, be sure to take into account that each bay window is made differently. And though this can make looking for window treatments harder, it can also allow you to incorporate a specific style to your windows to make them stand out.
For example, if your bay windows have unique features, you may want to use individual, inside-mounted curtains or blinds to make these distinctions stand out. An idea is to use Roman shades with contrast banding.
If your windows are closely spaced, you should consider a simple set of blinds or shades. You can then add a continuous valance which will cover the under treatments even when they are raised. This style creates a seamless and beautiful design.
If your bay windows are more widely spaced, you can hang a stationary panel between each window. Or, if there is not enough room to add the panel, you can border the entire window with a pair of panels and use a cornice for the top. This will fill out your windows and make them stand out.
Regardless of what window options you choose for your windows, be sure to take measurements and be aware of what size your treatments need to be. Especially with curtain rods, it can be frustrating if you get the wrong size, so take the necessary precautions before purchasing new treatments.
